How does crown lengthening work?
During crown lengthening, we’ll recontour and shape the gums so that more of the tooth’s surface is on display. We do this using a laser and, in some cases, may have to shave part of the bone.
How long is the treatment?
Crown lengthening can be achieved in just one appointment.
Is it painful?
We’ll first administer a local anaesthetic so you’re comfortable throughout. If you’re nervous about the treatment, we can also provide sedation treatments.
What happens afterwards?
You will experience some pain in the area afterwards, which can be treated with over-the-counter medicines such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. The area can take up to two days to properly heal, and it is recommended that you avoid hot food and drinks, as well as anything particularly spicy or chewy, for 72 hours.
